Howard’s Way Film Is Wonderful – Gary Lineker
Former Everton and England striker Gary Lineker has taken to Social Media to praise the Rob Sloman film Howard’s Way. The film about the effect Howard Kendall had on Everton Football Club in the early 1980’s transformed them into English Champions and European Cup Winners Cup champions.
Sloman has caught the mood and atmosphere of that era perfectly in the film and the music by The Farm’s Keith Mullin (a massive Evertonian) just adds to the joy of the film. There are brilliant anecdotes and stories from all of that Everton side and the movie gets right to the heart of what it was like at the club during that period.
This is something that has not been lost on Lineker, who now presents BBC’s Match Of The Day, and took to his Twitter account after finally seeing the film. He said :
“Finally got to see @HowardsWayFilm and it’s wonderful.”
“Such a bunch of brilliant and fantastic people and characters, superbly managed by Howard Kendall.”
Lineker even admitted that Everton was the best team he ever played for, which will please Evertonians who feel that Lineker does not always acknowledge the club that effectively made him.
“So glad I played with most of them. So glad I played for @Everton even if it was just a season.
“Best team I ever played for.”
It’s quite a statement given that Lineker left Everton for Barcelona. Just shows how good that Everton side was during Kendall’s first reign and Howard’s Way film reiterates that beautifully and gives us that piece of history we all deserve.
