Everton boss Marco Silva has called on his side to score more goals from set pieces. The Blues have scored twice in the last two games from set plays and Silva wants more and feels as though the players have the capability to do so.
Speaking to everton tv , Silva said :
“We have to improve on our offensive set pieces and we are working on that because we have the conditions to score more goals in those moments.”
“To be honest, goals from a variety of sources is something we want and our central defenders are part of this process.
Lucas Digne’s last minute free kick on Monday against Watford was the first goal direct from a free kick by an Everton player for 801 days since Romelu Lukaku scored against Crystal Palace during Ronald Koeman’s reign.
Silva knows that it is important for the defenders to get involved in scoring goals as 14 of Everton’s 23 goals this season have come from Richarlison (8 goals) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (6 goals) and a way for that to happen is through set plays which Everton definitely need to improve on. Last week’s goal against Newcastle United was Everton’s first goal from 93 corners and it is something that Silva is keen to correct.
“The main thing for them is to keep our team solid – not just them, everything defensively starts up front.”
“But they are part of our offensive process, too, and it is something I want more from our central defenders because they have the capacity to score more goals.”
A couple of set piece goals at Manchester City on Saturday would not go amiss !
