Everton have once again been linked with a move for Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa who has been on loan at Brazilian side Santos.

The 22-year-old striker has 22 goals in 38 domestic games for Santos and will be hoping to carry this form to his next club. His parent club Inter Milan, are reportedly willing to let Barbosa, sometimes known as Gabigol, leave this January.

And Marcel Brands is reportedly interested in bringing the impressive young striker to Everton in January in a bid to boost Marco Silva’s striking options. Everton are expected to allow Oumar Niasse to leave the club for Turkey and would therefore need another striker.

Gabigol in action for Santos

The Toffees have a strong Brazilian contingent with Bernard and Richarlison at Goodison Park. Both players joined Marco Silva – a Portuguese speaker – in the summer and have impressed so far.

Bernard has become a regular on the left-wing after his move from Shaktar Donetsk whilst Richarlison has featured as part of Silva’s plans in the starting line-up all season after his move from Watford in the summer. The young striker is now part of the Brazilian National squad and scored the winner in last month’s victory over Cameroon which was his 3rd goal for Brazil in appearances. As well as scoring 6 goals for Everton so far this season.

The Brazilian who has been capped 4 times by his National side, would be joining an exciting project under Marco Silva and the familiarity of other Brazilians and the fact that his manager speaks Portuguese, would surely help him to settle quickly to life in England.

Barbosa who has struggled during his time in Italy with Inter Milan and in Portugal with Benfica, but has managed to reignite his career back in Brazil, may well fancy his chances at playing in the Premier League.

Should Everton take a risk on Barbosa, hoping he can emulate Bernard and Richarlison’s form? Or should Marcel Brands be looking for a more proven striker to aid the Blues strikeforce for the second half of the season?
